Think Pharmacy First!
All local community pharmacies across Wales participate in the NHS Common Ailments Scheme. You can contact your local pharmacy for an appointment for minor ailments and specific conditions with a fully qualified independent prescriber. This means you do not need to make an appointment to see a GP, and if they feel you need to see a doctor, the pharmacist will advise.
Aneurin Evans Pharmacy, conveniently located on the surgery premises, offers a range of services, and other local community pharmacies can also help.
24/7 Automated Appointment Line
Call a separate dedicated number (01446 500 578) which offers patients the ability to request a same-day GP Telephone Consultation (Subject to Availability) each morning from 8.00 am for same-day concerns for example new swelling in your leg, a bleed during pregnancy (when less than 16 weeks pregnant) a fever in a child who is under 5 years old. You will not need to speak to a care navigator and you can leave a brief description of your problem.
After 10.00 am you can use this system to request a pre-bookable GP appointment for things that can usually wait, for example, a chest, throat, or ear infection, a urinary tract infection (UTI), passing blood in your urine or stool, finding a lump in your breasts or testicles, or noticing a change in the colour or shape of a mole.
You can also book selected Nurse Health Care Assistants and Womens Health Appointments. In addition, we may also send you a text message with a PIN to book yourself into specific clinics.
Call the surgery
Call the main surgery number (01446 722792) and select the appointments option. You will have the ability to press 5 to be passed through to the dedicated telephone appointment line or hold in the queue to speak to a receptionist to book an appointment.
If you use the dedicated appointment line you will need to verify yourself using your date of birth and your telephone number we have recorded. Therefore you must advise us of your correct number to use the system to book appointments, and it is also helpful for us to send you text messages.
We believe this will remove some of the pressure and frustration when patients try to call the surgery from 8.00 am and ultimately improve the patient experience of making an appointment.
Availability
Appointments are available every weekday between 08:30 and 18:00. The surgery offers a mixture of pre-bookable, same-day, and emergency appointments.
Making an Appointment
When you contact us to make an appointment, the doctors have instructed our reception team to ask you if you can tell us what the appointment is for. This information is to help you to get the right appointment with the right clinician. If you do not wish to provide this information, the receptionists will respect your decision.
Preference of a Clinician
Preference of Clinician As a patient you have the right to express a preference for a particular clinician. However, there may be occasions when the clinician is unavailable or not best suited to deal with your needs.
Patients seeking advice from abroad
Please note that we cannot offer medical advice or consultations for patients who are currently abroad, whether you are on vacation, working abroad, or for any other reason.
You are advised instead to seek medical advice local to where you are. This includes travel within the UK away from the local region (please temporarily register with an NHS GP local to your location).
Clinical Pharmacy Team
Clinical Pharmacists are highly qualified health professionals who train for many years to become specialists in medicines and how they work. They can work directly with you, as part of the General Practice team, to make sure your medicines help you get better and stay well. Having a Clinical Pharmacist in the practice team means you can be treated by the best professional for your needs. All pharmacists are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
When Will I See A Clinical Pharmacist?
You will see a Clinical Pharmacist when you need expert advice on your medication, often for those taking multiple medicines (polypharmacy). Below are some examples of how a Clinical Pharmacist can help you:
Long-term Conditions
If you have a condition such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis, or high blood pressure, the Clinical Pharmacist can discuss the medicines you’re taking to make sure they’re working for you. They can also help you with lifestyle changes to help you manage your condition. Our practice nurses will also conduct annual reviews.
Reviewing Your Medicines
If you are taking medicines long-term, you should be regularly reviewed. The Clinical Pharmacist can review all your medicines, discuss how they are working for you, and carry out health checks, such as taking your blood pressure. They can also arrange for you to have blood or other tests.
After A Stay In the Hospital
If your medicines have been changed while you were in hospital, the Clinical Pharmacist can help explain these changes and ensure you get the maximum benefit from these medicines.
Your Appointment
Our Clinical Pharmacists can prescribe your medicines but you will still have to collect your medicines from your local pharmacy in the usual way. Please let the surgery know if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment so that another patient can benefit from it instead.
For Common Illnesses You Can Still Visit Your Pharmacy
If you are suffering from a common illness such as a cold, hay fever, diarrhoea, an eye infection, or pain, the fastest way to get advice is to visit a Community Pharmacist who can advise and the appropriate treatment under the choose pharmacy scheme.
