Appointments

Click the Ask My GP logo below to access our online service.

How does the appointment system work?

Complete a simple questionnaire either to ask a question or advice from a member of the practice team.  If you are asking for clinical advice you can select the Doctor you usually see or you can select ‘anyone’ and a member of our clinical team will get back to you. Please note that if the doctor you requested is not available your query will be directed to another GP at the practice to respond.

If your query is more of an administration query our non-clinical team will respond.

We aim to get back to you the same or the next day during the normal working week.

If you do not have access to a computer or a smartphone you can still telephone the practice and speak to one of our receptionists.

The Receptionists have been asked by the Partners to take some brief details from you about the nature of your problem, in confidence, to help then direct the concern / query to the most appropriate person.

How soon will the doctor call?

The doctor will call as soon as possible, usually the same working day so please stay with your phone.

For routine enquiries/advice we will aim to get back to you in 24 hours.

What happens when the doctor calls?

The doctor will discuss the problem with you and work out what to do next.  You may want advice, or you may need to come into the surgery.  The doctor or reception team will arrange an appointment if you need to be seen – usually the same day with the most appropriate clinician.

How does this help patients?

  • Many problems can be dealt with over the phone so the new system avoids wasted time coming into the surgery unnecessarily
  • Using the weblink reduces the frustration of waiting to speak to a Receptionist
  • It cuts down the wait to see a doctor with immediate effect

Telephone lines are open at 08:00 and close at 18:30 each evening.

Please note that phone calls may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

Pre-bookable Appointments

Practice Nurse and Healthcare Assistant appointments can also be pre-booked for your convenience - please ask a member of reception for more details when telephoning.

Nurse Appointments

If you require advice regarding the following matters please make the receptionist aware when booking the appointment with the nurse in order for more time to be allocated:

  • Complex travel advice
  • Complicated dressings
  • Asthma review

Checking-in

When you arrive at the West Quay surgery, you will find a self-check in system in the main reception area on the ground floor. This system is to check-in to see a doctor or nurse without the need to inform the receptionists. This is used to reduce queueing at the main reception desk.

On arrival at Rhoose, please let the receptionist know you have arrived for your appointment.

We ask all patients to arrive a minimum of 5 minutes before the appointment time; this helps ensure the smooth running of everyone's appointments.

Late arrival

Given the demands on doctors' and nurses' time, we cannot guarantee you will be seen if you arrive beyond the appointed time. If you are more than 10 minutes late for an appointment, you will be asked to re-book your appointment.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the appointment to somebody else.
